Course summary
The exciting and dynamic world of computer science is at the heart of many aspects of modern life, and the BSc Computer Science will give you both the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to become a part of that world.
On this course you will develop transferable technical, analytical and professional skills, supported by a broad awareness of current technology trends. The course covers a mixture of core techniques and concepts and evolving, technology-based subject matter.
Graduates are able to objectively analyse problems and develop appropriate computational solutions. Your detailed understanding of technology will make you suitable for a range of professional careers and sought-after by employers.
The year of study at a university abroad will give you the opportunity to broaden your experience and learning, and strengthen your transferable skills.
Distinctive Features of the Programme.

The programme includes a year of study at an approved university abroad (subject to your successful application) in year 3 of the programme. This will give you an exciting opportunity to study Computer Science in a new environment and culture. You will develop the ability to live and function effectively in a country outside the UK, and independently observe and appreciate cultures and daily society of the host country.

The course does not require any prior knowledge or experience of computer science. You will begin your studies with a month-long module which establishes core concepts and competencies and supports the transition to studying at a university. You will have the opportunity to develop your interest in specialist areas of computer science through project work and module options.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
DD-DM in a BTEC Diploma in Computing, Engineering, ICT, or IT and grade B A-level Maths
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 32 - 30 points
32-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects. Must include grade 5 in HL Maths.
Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)
The Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in lieu of one A Level at the A Level grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements.
Extended Project - A
For applicants taking the EPQ qualification, an A in the EPQ can be recognised to lower the entry requirements by a single grade. For example an AAB offer would be “AAB from 3 A levels or ABB from 3 A levels and a grade A in the EPQ”. Please note that any subject specific requirements must be met.
GCSE/National 4/National 5
You must have or be working towards:
- English language or Welsh language at GCSE grade C/4 or an equivalent (such as A-levels). If you require a Student visa, you must ensure your language qualification complies with UKVI requirements.
- GCSE Maths grade B/6 or equivalent qualification (subject and grade). If you are taking A-level Maths (or equivalent), GCSE Maths is not required. Core Maths may also be accepted in place of GCSE Maths.
T Level
Acceptance of T Levels for this programme will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Academic School. Consideration will be given to the T Level grade/subject and grades/subjects achieved at GCSE/Level 2.
We do not accept Critical Thinking, General Studies, Citizenship Studies, or other similar equivalent subjects.
We will accept a combination of BTEC subjects, A-levels, and other qualifications, subject to the course specific grade and subject requirements.
English language requirements
All applicants are expected to have demonstrable English language skills. Most courses ask for GCSE English grade C/4 or equivalent, but some courses ask for GCSE English grade B/6 or equivalent.
