Course summary

The MEng allows you to study your areas of interest in more depth and also gives you the time to widen your knowledge of both electrical and electronic engineering and other subjects including management.

This degree leads more directly to Chartered Engineer status and it is the choice programme for a career in engineering management. The first two years of the MEng and BEng programmes are identical and there is some flexibility to allow switching between programmes, although a higher academic performance is expected for the MEng. In the third year you study core subjects including analogue and digital communications, embedded computer architecture and total quality management. In the final year the core subjects are advanced signal processing, information theory and coding, management of design and management of product development.

This programme is available with a Year in China. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), following XJTLU's BA China Studies degree classes. XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

To include Mathematics and a science subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics). For applicants from England: For science A Levels that include the separately graded practical endorsement, a Pass is required.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - D*D*D

D*D*D* BTEC Diploma D*D in a relevant subject, plus B in A level Maths. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Distinction (any subject), plus AB in A levels (including Maths and a second science)

Access to HE Diploma - D: 42 credits

42 Level 3 credits at Distinction, including 15 Level 3 credits in Mathematics. Students will be required to take an online Mathematics assessment, please contact the University for further information.

Scottish Higher - AABBB

Combinations of Highers and Advanced Highers considered, including Advanced Highers in Mathematics and a Science subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics).

Scottish Advanced Higher - ABB

Including Mathematics and a Science subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics).

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 33 points

33 points overall including 5 in Higher Level Mathematics and 5 in Higher Level second science (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics).

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024) - B

A Level grades AB in Mathematics and a science subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics), plus grade B in Welsh Baccalaureate.

Extended Project - A

Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade A in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB or BBB plus A in the EPQ.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) - H1, H2, H2, H2, H3, H3

Including H2 or above in Mathematics and a Science subject (Chemistry, Computer Science, Further Maths, Physics or Electronics).

GCSE/National 4/National 5

GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Tuition fees for Home undergraduates
If this is your first degree and you are a Home student applying for entry in 2024, you do not have to pay your fees upfront. Instead, you can take out a tuition fee loan which is paid straight to the University. This is available to most students, no matter what their household income.

For UK students applying for 2024 entry the Tuition Fees are £9,250.
