Course summary

Designed specifically for professional and aspiring football players and those in player-facing roles, BSc (Hons) Football Industry degree combines learning in key areas of the football industry with practical leadership skills. Using a unique and innovative online delivery model, this is a practical course which has been informed by research and professional practice and builds on learners’ football industry experience to develop strong skills relating to the business of football and facilitate their career progression into the wide range of roles that now exist across the football industry. Utilising the range of experiences that reflect the reality of playing and working within the football industry the programme is designed to work alongside learners’ existing football commitments and allows learners to take advantage of the workplace context in which this programme is delivered.

The programme will enable a cohort of learners from within high performance football environments to access an academic qualification to support their future career options.

Modules

At Level 4 students will study a total of six units. The modules will consist of:-

  1. Football Psychology
  2. Academic & Professional Development for the Football Industry
  3. Contemporary Issues in Football
  4. Principles of Football Coaching & Conditioning
  5. Football for Community Development
  6. Technology in Football
    At Level 5 students will study a total of six units. The modules will consist of:-
  7. Marketing in Football and The Role of The Media
  8. Advanced Personal & Professional Development for the Football Industry
  9. Advances in Football Data and Analytics
  10. Football Research Methods and Ethics
  11. Talent Identification & Development
  12. High Performance Culture
    At Level 6 students will study a total of five units. The modules will consist of:-
  13. Dissertation
  14. Football Club Operations
  15. Managing People and Teams in Football
  16. Career & Professional Development for the Football Industry
  17. Global Football Impacts and Legacies

Assessment method

Level 4:
100% assessments including written reports, essays, practical sessions, applied case studies, blogs, portfolios and digital presentations.
Level 5:
100% assessments including industry-based reports, reflective portfolios, creative pitches and infographics, case study reports, research proposal and digital presentations.
Level 6:
100% assessments including portfolios, applied industry projects, presentations and vivas, academic posters, essays, reports and dissertation.

Academic requirements*: • Must have access to a football environment • 3 year course - have gained a level 3 education e.g. BTEC or A Levels. Ideally MMM minimum profile for BTEC or CCC for A levels (96 points) • If no level 3 qualification, then applicants would need professional qualifications e.g UEFA B or A or to be considered via APL for prior experience
