Course summary
Prepare for a rewarding career in law and justice with our Law with Criminology with Foundation Year programme. Whether you want to better prepare for academic life, didn't get the grades you needed, or you've taken a break from studying, this course combines academic study with practical experience, giving you the tools and skills you need to succeed in your future studies.

This course is also available with:
• Placement Year - on the placement year option, you will not pay fees to the University and will earn a wage for the work that you do.

This programme covers the foundational legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). You’ll also gain essential digitals skills through platforms like LinkedIn Learning, where you'll learn:

This course is not open to international students.
Modules
Foundation Year: Introduction to English Law, English Legal Systems, Academic and Personal Skills, Further Legal Knowledge, Introduction to Legal Skills and Attributes, Employability for Life.
Year 1: Contract Law, Tort Law, Legal Systems and Legal Digital Skills, Criminal Law, Criminal Justice and Human Rights, Understanding Criminology.
Year 2: Public Law, European Union Law and the UK, Land Law, Theoretical Criminology. You will also choose two elective modules. Please visit the website for more information.

Assessment method
Assessments are not just about exams. We use different assessment techniques in different modules and wherever possible these will reflect the types of work you will do in the ‘real world’ for example, portfolio work, multiple choice questions, court visit reports and problem questions. The weighting between exams and coursework varies between modules and years, however exams do still play an important role.

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff Points from a QAA Approved Level 3 Access to HE Diploma to contain a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 at Level 2 to total 60 credits overall for the full award.
Scottish Higher
64 points from a minimum of 1 Advanced Higher.
AS
64 From a minimum of 1 A Level or equivalent. Additional AS Levels can be used towards the overall tariff points provided they are not completed in the same subject as the A Level.

including a grade 5 in standard level maths and grade 6 in standard level english or grade 4 in higher level maths and grade 5 in higher level english

Extended Project

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)
64 points from a minimum of 1 Higher Level Subject including a minimum of H7 (D3)or O4 (C3) in Maths and English
Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal
64 points. Not acceptable on it's own. Points must be gained from a minimum of
1 A Level or equivalent.
GCSE/National 4/National 5
Grade C or grade 4 (or above) in Maths and English GCSE is required. Equivalent qualifications Key Skills Level 2, and Functional Skills Level 2, are also accepted.
