Nursing & Midwifery Experience - Healthcare Careers with Springpod

Job sector: Healthcare & Medicine

Overview
We have joined forces with Health Education England to bring students a Nursing & Midwifery online work-related learning programme. The programme will provide an overview of what careers in Nursing & Midwifery can offer, as well as develop key skills for these professions. There’s also the opportunity to hear from NHS professionals, learn about their day to day work, as well as about the different areas of Nursing and complete assignments. Upon completion, participants are awarded a certificate, which can be useful for CVs, Personal Statements and interviews.

This programme links to careers in: healthcare, nursing, social care, therapy and more. Subjects such as Biology, Health and Social Care and Social Sciences link well to a career in Nursing. An awareness of the NHS Core Values and skills such as compassion, a desire to help and team work are all essential.

What's covered in this Virtual Work Experience

The World of the NHS

Have you ever wondered what working for the NHS is really like? It’s a universal healthcare system that is crucial for treating patients and saving lives on a daily basis, but we often don’t fully understand what it’s like! This module will help with that - from introducing you to how the NHS is structured to introducing the core values and beliefs of the NHS, you’ll gain an insight into what it’s like to work in healthcare settings, and how it feels to truly make a difference!

The World of Nursing

Nursing is much more diverse and varied than you’d have thought, and this module will show you how! From diverse specialisms, including adult, children’s, mental health and learning disability nursing, to showing you what life is like in these crucial roles, this module will show you how much of a difference you can make as a member of the nursing team.

Mental Health Nursing

Within the four distinct areas of nursing, mental health nursing takes a unique approach to nursing that you mightn't have thought of before - for one thing, it doesn’t really focus on physical injuries! It takes a particular set of skills and responsibilities, which is what we’ll focus on in this module. We’ll introduce you to the essential aspects of mental health nursing, covering what working in this role is really like, and what’s involved with nursing in the wider community!

Adult Nursing

Adult nurses can work across all care settings and areas, providing care to those who need it most. In this module, we’ll show you what it’s really like to work as an adult nurse, interacting with patients from different ages and backgrounds. Plus, with an insight into the work of nursing associates, we’ll show you the different opportunities you can have as part of the world of nursing!

Children’s Nursing

We can all need a nurse from time to time, no matter how old we are. Children’s nurses can be a real source of support for both young patients and their families, and can be a helping hand for however long treatment and care is needed . There’s a particular set of skills and characteristics required, and this module will help you understand exactly what’s needed to be successful as a children’s nurse!

Learning Disability Nursing

The care and support provided by nurses can come in many different forms. At times, it can be more treatment focused, whereas, at other times, it can be supporting someone to help them live their lives as independently, comfortably and happily as possible. This module will cover life as a learning disability nurse, the skills you need to succeed in this area, and an overview of how nursing in social care can help individuals!

Midwifery

Midwifery professionals provide vital care during pregnancy, labour, and the early postnatal period. This module will introduce you to the essential skills, characteristics, and responsibilities found within midwifery, and show you everything that it takes to succeed!
