About us

At Portsmouth, we give you the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to make your life anything you want it to be. As a Gold rated university in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF 2023), we’re respected for the quality of our teaching, learning and student outcomes.

Here, you’ll get career-ready. Our graduate employment rates are some of the UK’s best, with 94 per cent in work or study (HESA Graduate Outcomes Survey 2020/21). Courses are designed to give you skills employers are looking for, often using simulated working environments and professional equipment. That's why we're ranked in the top 20 in England for academic support and learning resources (National Student Survey, 2023).

With us, you’ll become an independent learner – and we’ll support you to grow and succeed. If you need help, we act. Everyone here can get outstanding support for everything from mental and physical health, through to money, housing or a part-time job.

Your Time. Your Place. | Come visit the University of Portsmouth

Based in the heart of the UK's only island city, the University of Portsmouth is committed to giving every student a life-changing experience. Outstanding teaching and wide-ranging support make for a lively community where students can develop skills and confidence for a rewarding life.

What makes us different

Portsmouth is the only UK university that offers flexible sandwich placements for our undergraduates and we call these Connected Degrees. This is a 3 year course with a 4th year paid placement and courses offer the freedom to choose when you take your placement: either before or after your final year.

Portsmouth is also the UK's only island city and our campus and halls of residence are in the lively city centre. You’ll find inspiration round every corner.

Our new Ravelin Sports Centre is one of the most sustainable sports facilities in Europe and the campus is just a 10 minute walk from campus from miles of beaches and green spaces. Two Victorian piers offer amazing views, amusement arcades and rides, while Spinnaker Tower gives you stunning views of the city and the Solent.

Many students live in the friendly and quirky resort area of Southsea. Whatever your vibe, there’s something to love, from festivals and food markets through to kayaking and lakeside picnics.

I visited the University of Portsmouth and instantly loved the lively energy and the campus feel.
