Join Dr Sukky Jassi, Dr Esther Pugh and Alistair MacAuley as they explore the world of smart tech, and how it shapes our lives as consumers. In this Subject Spotlight you will be introduced to how smart tech has developed, and consider its different uses within the food and drink, and fashion industries. You will undertake a task that uses critical reasoning skills to evaluate future smart tech developments, before receiving some career advice on where a Business and Management degree could take you!

Meet the academics

Alistair MacAuley

Alistair is an experienced academic, educational specialist and Course Director for the Business and Management provision at Leeds Business School. He has over 12 years experience teaching across all levels at the university and has delivered on a number of programmes including Business & Management, Retail Marketing and Management and Degree Apprenticeships at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Alistair has held a number of positions in both grocery retail and licensed retail before entering academia. His specialism is in the retail environment, innovation and technology. Alistair has stayed true to his business roots ensuring that his students are exposed to the world of business, working on a number of projects throughout their university journey, striving to bring the world of business academia to life. Alistair is in the final year of his doctorate, which focuses on student experience, wellbeing, resilience and belonging. His research has had a significant impact when enhancing the student journey and experience at Leeds Business School.

The easiest way to include it would be to briefly mention one or two things you learned from it and how/why those learnings have furthered your desire to study the subject. We don't want to prescribe an answer because it's your personal statement but this is a good starting point!
