Teesside UniversityPrimary Education (with QTS), BA (Hons)I know I’ve always wanted to do a job that required me around children and as I did some work experience in a school, I realised how much I love teaching and the profession as a whole. I can’t wait to become a primary school teacher and hopefully be able to work in a SEND school. Ann-Marie

University of Wales Trinity Saint DavidPrimary Education with QTS (BA)My name is Lottie, I am 18 years old and I started University in September 2025. I was really anxious about moving onto campus but I settled really quickly and I am now really close with my flatmates. Turns out there was nothing to worry about after all! I haven’t joined any societies and that’s okay! But I really enjoy arts and craft so me and my flatmates sometimes attend craft events held by the Student Union. I am completing my primary teaching degree as all I have ever wanted to do is teach. If you would like any insights into the reality of a student teacher, I’m the girl to ask. 😊 Molly

HE provider good practice briefing for students from UK Armed Forces Families (Service children)
This briefing is for staff working in universities and colleges and supports the introduction of the new UCAS flag to identify students from UK Armed Forces families, from 2023 entry. We have worked with the Service Children’s Progression (SCiP) Alliance and the Ministry of Defence to outline the common challenges for these students, share good practice around the UK, and provide considerations ahead of the new question.
Teacher training
If you’re considering teaching in a UK state school, you’ll need to have a degree, and a recognised teaching qualification. Initial Teacher Education or Training (ITET) programmes across the UK are broadly similar, providing a combination of academic study and time in school, as you learn about key teaching methods. The routes, entry requirements, and statutory teaching standards are different depending on where in the UK you plan to train, and ultimately, teach. You can apply through UCAS for the main postgraduate and undergraduate teacher training programmes in Wales and Scotland. For programmes in England, use the DfE's 'Apply for teacher training' service.
