Become a nurse with MNurs Nursing (Child and Mental Health) at the University of Southampton, a course ranked 3rd in the UK and 13th in the world (QS World Rankings by Subject 2026), to shape the future of healthcare and be there when it matters.
On your four-year integrated master's degree you'll learn how to improve the quality of life for young service users and patients with complex mental health issues. This programme will also prepare you to work in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) through an extensive range of placements, simulated practice in our specialist facilities, and clinical skills teaching by world-class educators and practitioners.
To prepare you for your future role, the programme will help you to:
develop skills in assessment, decision-making and managing complexity across a range of healthcare environments
understand the nature of health needs within a global context
become confident in embracing the technology and innovation that will be needed to meet people's future health needs
prepare for a future nursing leadership role in clinical or academic settings
You'll graduate from this course with the opportunity to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse (Child) and as a Registered Nurse (Mental Health).

Throughout your degree you'll be supported to achieve your best in assessments by our vibrant Health Sciences community, your Personal Academic Tutor, and your Practice Mentor.
Assessments on this programme range from coursework, written and practical exams to projects. Assessment takes place throughout the course to ensure that you are reaching the right levels of attainment. Your practical skills will be assessed whist you are on placement and recorded by your Practice Mentor.

GCSEs: Minimum of GCSE Maths and English Language (A*-C or 4-9). GCSE Science (A*-C or 4-9) also required if not offered as a level 3 qualification. Certain GCSE equivalent qualifications will be considered.
FETAC / QQI Level 5 120 Credits: Pass in every module, with distinction essential in at least 5 modules including Human Growth and Development (or Biology), Anatomy and Physiology and Nursing Theory.
Recent relevant study must have been taken within the last 5 years.
You may be required to attend a selection day. Satisfactory Occupational Health and Police Checks required.
