Course summary

Our three-year BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science (Audiology) course with integrated clinical learning throughout, will provide you with the skills, knowledge and hands-on experience required to start an exciting and rewarding career as an audiologist. This programme stands out as a premier pathway for audiologists, providing a full learning experience combined with hands-on learning through our extensive network of industry partners, developing your skills in our dedicated specialist facilities, and benefitting from the experience and insight of our expert teaching staff.

Aston will equip you with the skills, insights, and confidence required to become a proficient and compassionate audiologist, capable of diagnosing and managing hearing and balance disorders, improving the quality of life for individuals with auditory challenges, and contributing to advancements in the field of audiology.

You will benefit from extensive patient contact throughout the course within the university through integrated clinical practice experience from year 1. A large proportion of your final year involves completing clinical practice experience at external clinics, helping you to prepare for your first graduate role.

• On-campus public-facing Specsavers Audiology Clinic where students will practice clinical skills with real patients, supervised by our experts.
• A clinical skills laboratory equipped with the latest audiology equipment.
• Soundproof booths and hearing testing rooms.
• Otoscan 3D ear scanner to make digital impressions for custom in-the-ear pieces such as earmolds and hearing aids.
• Audiometers TO measure an individual's hearing thresholds.
• Otoacoustic Emission (OAE) Systems to measure the responses of the inner ear (cochlea) to sound.
• Video Otoscopy to visualise the ear canal and eardrum, which is essential for diagnosing ear-related conditions.
• Tympanometers to assess the function of the middle ear, including the eardrum and the movement of the ossicles.
• Audiology Rehabilitation Tools such as FM systems and cochlear implant programming equipment.

A level ABB

ABB in three A Levels which must include one science subject from Biology or Physics.

BBB in three A Levels which must include one science subject from Biology or Physics plus grade B in an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or Core Maths.

BCC in three A Levels which must include one science subject from Biology or Physics for Contextual Offer students (more details https://www.aston.ac.uk/undergraduate/contextual-offer-aston-ready).

RESITS: We welcome applications from students who have retaken exams to improve their grades. Only the highest grades achieved will be considered and resit applications are treated the same as all others.

PREDICTIONS AND ACHIEVED GRADES: At Aston University, we are committed to an inclusive admissions process, ensuring every applicant has the best possible opportunity.

While our listed grades are the official entry requirements, we understand that predicted grades are estimates. We typically offer candidates predicted to achieve CCC or higher, provided they meet the subject-specific requirements. This approach gives applicants the opportunity to improve upon their predicted grades. However, the offer made will contain the listed grade requirements.

We also consider applications from students who have already achieved at least CCC in their A Levels. These applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, considering the strength of the application, a strong academic reference and any explanations for gaps in academic history.

STANDARD: If this BTEC is RQF* National in Applied Science, we require DDD (you do not require an additional A Level)

OR

If this BTEC is QCF* in Applied Science we require DDD and you must also achieve grade B in either Biology or Physics at A Level.

If you are studying a non-science subject in this BTEC which is QCF or RQF National, then you must achieve DDD and grade B in either Biology or Physics at A Level.

CONTEXTUAL: If this BTEC is RQF* National in Applied Science we require DDM (you do not require an additional A Level)

If this BTEC is QCF* in Applied Science we require DDD and you must also achieve grade C in either Biology or Physics at A Level.

We accept the QAA-recognised Access to HE Diploma, consisting of 45 credits at Level 3. You must obtain a minimum of 24 Distinctions, 21 Merits and 0 Passes. Please note that we do not accept the English and Maths components within the Access qualification so you must meet the GCSE entry requirements.

Subjects accepted: Applied Science, Biology combined with Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Biosciences, Combined Sciences, Health Sciences, Health Sciences Professions, Life Sciences and Sciences.

Please note: we do not accept Health and Social Care as it does not contain the core science material required for subsequent undergraduate studies on this degree.

CONTEXTUAL: 28 points overall and grades 5, 4, 4 in Higher Level subjects which must include one science subject from Biology or Physics. You must also have Standard Level grade 6 in Mathematics and grade 5 in English Language.

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) H2, H2, H3, H3, H4

Pass the Irish Leaving Certificate with 5 subjects at Higher Level. Must achieve H2, H2, H3, H3, H4 and includes one core science subject from: Biology or Physics at grade H2 or above.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

Five GCSEs which must include grade B/5 Mathematics, C/4 English Language and the rest at grade C/4 or above.

Please note that we do not accept Key Skills or Functional Skills in place of these.

Additional fee information

UK students (Home Undergraduate):
The annual tuition fee for the programme commencing in academic year 2025/26 will be £9,535 (subject to the passing of legislation implementing the Government’s policy to increase the maximum tuition fee from £9,250, payable by Home Undergraduate students on full-time courses). The fee for the placement year is £1,250.

International students (Overseas Undergraduate):
The annual tuition fee for the programme commencing in academic year 2025/26 will be £21,500. The fee for the placement year is £2,500.

All students:
The duration of your programme is set out above and you will be responsible for the payment of an annual tuition fee in each of these years. The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees annually in accordance with its Terms and Conditions (aston.ac.uk/sites/default/files/2024-12/Terms_and_Conditions_of_Enrolment_2025-6.pdf) and subject at all times to the maximum tuition fee caps set by Government from time to time.
