Embark on a journey of creativity and self-expression with our brand new Fashion Degree, where we explore the art of 2D and 3D pattern development, garment construction and design.
This new BA degree introduces the world of contemporary fashion, including design development, illustration, draping, textile techniques (including knit and print), pattern cutting and manufacturing; moving on to more advanced topics such as zero waste pattern cutting techniques. It also covers contemporary global fashion narratives, such as gender fluidity, diversity & inclusivity, sustainability, ethical practices as well as historical contexts.
The BA (Hons) in Fashion is awarded by the Nottingham Trent University (NTU)
About the course:
The Fashion degree is based at our Adams Building campus in the historic 'Lace Market' creative quarter right at the heart of the city centre. A converted Victorian lace factory; Adams uniquely combines Nottingham's rich industrial heritage with up-to-the minute facilities. The Fashion department features industry-relevant digital technologies with Mac suites, 3D design software for pattern and manufacture and Adobe tools.

Assessments:
A wide range of innovative and traditional methods are used, including: practical workshops, discussions, groupwork, lectures, tutorials, project work, portfolios, essays, presentations, design journals/sketchbooks and visual assignments (such as photoshoots and catwalk events).
Careers and progression:
The global fashion industry offers a diverse array of opportunities. Typically, careers include positions in fashion design, buying, trend prediction, visual merchandising, garment production and technology and pattern cutting. Some graduates choose to take on freelance work, set up their own company or continue to postgraduate study.
Specific roles could include: fashion designer, illustrator, pattern cutter, buyer, garment technologist, visual merchandiser, trend forecaster, textile designer or fashion entrepreneur. Graduates could also consider a career in journalism, blogging, PR, marketing or education.
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

We expect students to be working at (or to demonstrate competency at) Level 2 or above in English/literacy and maths/numeracy. We accept GCSE passes at grades 9 to 4 (previously A* to C).
