Course summary

Develop your knowledge of sports coaching – including factors such as physiology, nutrition and psychology – with our BSc (Hons) Sports Science and Coaching degree at ARU in Writtle.

Our course explores athletes’ welfare, performance needs and health. You’ll gain a thorough scientific understanding of how you can support sportspeople and contribute to improvements in performance.

As a student at ARU in Writtle, you’ll take part in practical, hands-on classes using specialist sports facilities and equipment. These include our Centre for Sport and Health, which is open to the public and where you may work with elite clubs and athletes, and members of the community.

You'll be taught by staff who are experienced practitioners in elite sports such as football, cycling, GB Basketball, squash and athletics.

When you graduate, you’ll have a well-rounded understanding of athletic performance and be ready to make a start on your career.

Entry requirements

Admission is based on the consideration of both the academic and practical background of the applicant. The requirement is for a 240 credit academic qualification relevant to Sport and Exercise Science, recognised by the Qualifications Framework. This will include any Level 5 Diploma of Higher Education or Foundation Degree in Sport and Exercise Science, or the equivalent study in international qualifications.
