Reasons to choose Kingston
We’re ranked No.1 in the UK (The Guardian University Guide League Tables 2023) within the Interior Design subject area.
All our projects are developed collaboratively with entrepreneurs, developers, community groups and some of the best design studios in the UK.
You’ll work in newly refurbished, purpose-built design studios and have access to a dedicated art, design and material library and impressive modelling and fabrication facilities.
Our commitment to high quality teaching has been recognised with a Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold rating. The University has received an overall rating of Gold, as well as securing a Gold award in the framework's two new student experience and student outcomes categories.
About this course
We believe design can give form, identity, and meaning to a rapidly changing world. As an interior designer, you’ll be able to create ambitious spaces that exploit opportunities and respond to the challenges we face today.
This course will prepare you for the demands of contemporary design practice. You’ll be taught by thinkers and makers, designers, architects, artists, engineers and material experts.
You’ll learn how to interrogate a problem, playfully speculate solutions, tell stories, create desires and bring designs to an innovative material and spatial resolution. You’ll ask questions about the future and answer with temporary pop-ups or the long-term transformation of redundant buildings. Past student projects have included a floating community space, new retail experiences, and the inventive reuse of neglected buildings.
Future Skills
Embedded within every course curriculum and throughout the whole Kingston experience, Future Skills will play a role in shaping you to become a future-proof graduate, providing you with the skills most valued by employers such as problem-solving, digital competency, and adaptability.
As you progress through your degree, you'll learn to navigate, explore and apply these graduate skills, learning to demonstrate and articulate to employers how future skills give you the edge.
At Kingston University, we're not just keeping up with change, we're creating it.
Career opportunities
Graduates develop careers in interior and architectural design practice, exhibition, scenography and brand environments. Examples of employers include Brinkworth, Universal Design Studio, Casson Mann, Squire and Partners, and Fitch.
