Course summary

Are you passionate about ground-breaking cancer research and the latest developments in cancer sciences? This internationally supported and research-extensive course is designed to give you clinical understanding of the causes of cancer, the molecular basis of new and established cancer treatments, as well as its translation into therapeutics and drug development. You’ll train across areas including cell and molecular biology, immunology, and human physiology.
You'll be prepared for a career in cancer-related areas, including research in academia or industry, clinical trials management, science communication and graduate entry medicine, as well as a range of other graduate level careers.
At Nottingham, you’ll be part of ground-breaking cancer research that is the basis for new treatments.
You’ll be supported by internationally recognised researchers and clinicians, and you’ll be equipped with the core scientific skills necessary to progress to specialisms in cancer sciences research, in the pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, finance and contract research industries, as well as in academic cancer research.

Choosing the BSc or the MSci
Choose to study either our three-year Cancer Sciences BSc or our four-year Cancer Sciences MSci. The integrated MSci course gives you a guaranteed nine-month placement in industry or in a research laboratory. This placement can be in the UK or abroad.
BSc students can transfer to the MSci at the end of their second year if they are meeting the entry requirements and a placement is available (although this is not guaranteed).
Equally, students on the MSci can transfer to the BSc course.

Assessment method

You'll be assessed through a variety of methods, including: essays, coursework, exams, lab report, presentations, practical write-ups, and a dissertation.

Extended Project

If you have already achieved your EPQ at grade A you will automatically be offered one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject. If you are still studying for your EPQ you will receive the standard course offer, and also an alternate offer with a condition of one grade lower in a non-mandatory A level subject if you achieve an A grade in your EPQ. If you qualify for a contextual offer, your EPQ will be taken into consideration and the appropriate adjustment will be made to your offer. Please note that if you qualify for an enhanced contextual offer, your EPQ will not be taken into consideration as we are unable to make any further adjustments to your offer.
