Course summary

Whether you want to better prepare for academic life, didn't get the grades you needed, or you've taken a break from studying, the foundation year is designed to prepare you for future studies, so everyone is welcome.

You’ll look ahead to the technologies that will affect the work of business leaders and finance professionals in the future. You'll also gain essential digitals skills that will help you go further in the industry, such as:

Foundation Year: Foundations of Business, Sustainable Business Development, Digital Business, Academic and Personal Skills, Business Project, Employability for Life

Year 1: Digital and Business Skills, Understanding Organisations, Financial Crises and Symptoms, The Future of Business, Data Analysis for Business, Business Finance in Practice.

Year 2: Professional Development, Analysis for Finance, Financial Markets and Institutions, Project Management, International Finance, Live Project in Finance. You will also choose an elective module. Please see the University's course page for more information.

Year 3: Business Ethics and Sustainability, Business Finance, Leadership and Management in Finance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management, Innovation in Financial Services or Dissertation. Assessment method

We use different forms of assessment in different modules and wherever possible these will reflect the types of work you will do in the ‘real world’ for example, report writing, presentations and business pitches. Exams will only be used when it is a requirement for professional accreditation.

Throughout your studies, the work you produce will help to build your personal portfolio of professional evidence that you will be able to use in job applications and interviews.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) MMP

Access to HE Diploma

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff Points from a QAA Approved Level 3 Access to HE Diploma to contain a minimum of 45 credits at Level 3 and 15 at Level 2 to total 60 credits overall for the full award.

Scottish Higher

64 points from a minimum of 1 Advanced Higher.

AS

64 From a minimum of 1 A2 or equivalent. Additional AS Levels can be used towards the overall tariff points provided they are not completed in the same subject as the A2.

64 points. This is not a qualification that is acceptable on it's own as it is not a full A2 equivalent qualification but can be used in combination with a full A2 equivalent qualification to make up the required tariff points.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme 26 points

including a grade 5 in standard level maths and grade 6 in standard level english or grade 4 in higher level maths and grade 5 in higher level english

Welsh Baccalaureate - Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate (last awarded Summer 2024)

64 points. Not acceptable on it's own.

Extended Project

64 points. Not acceptable on it's own. Points must be gained from a minimum of 1 A2 or equivalent.

Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017)

64 points from a minimum of 1 Higher Level Subject including a minimum of H7 (D3)or O4 (C3) in Maths and English

Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal

64 points. Not acceptable on it's own. Points must be gained from a minimum of 1 A2 or equivalent.

GCSE/National 4/National 5

Grade C or grade 4 (or above) in Maths and English GCSE is required. Equivalent qualifications Key Skills Level 2, and Functional Skills Level 2, are also accepted.
