Our BSc (Hons) Geography degree brings together the study of human and physical geography, exploring how the planet works – from the forces shaping the earth’s surface to the complex connections between people, cultures, and places.
You’ll begin by exploring key geographical topics like, urban and cultural geography, and Earth’s dynamic systems including climate change and landscape development, while gaining essential skills in GIS and data analysis. As you progress, you’ll gain practical experience in research through fieldwork and in the laboratory, equipping you with the skills to address global challenges and pursue careers in geography and environmental management.
While our flagship Dalton building provides outstanding teaching facilities, some of the best learning happens beyond the classroom. Manchester is the ultimate “city laboratory”, offering the opportunity to explore real-world geographical issues through local fieldwork and day trips across the North-West. You’ll also have the chance to take part in overseas field trips, further enhancing your practical skills and global perspective.
The course provides the opportunity to create a career action plan and complete a professional development programme. You could choose to spend an additional year studying abroad or working on a placement in industry. Carbon Literacy training is also embedded into our curriculum, equipping you with in-demand skills and knowledge to tackle global challenges.
