Film and Television Production with Foundation Year

Are you passionate about film? Do you want to bring stories to life? BA (Hons) Film and Television Production course will see you developing your skills and knowledge of how films go from concept to screen. Work behind the camera and explore all aspects of production, from casting and scouting locations, to managing budgets, and measuring the success of films.

In the Foundation Year of this four-year course, you’ll build essential academic study skills. This year will help you gain confidence in your abilities. You’ll also identify your strengths and areas for development. Together, these will prepare you for progression to the undergraduate degree.

What will I study?
We’ll start the course by exploring the key theories and skills you need to analyse and deconstruct films. You’ll look at Hollywood cinema, documentaries, independent and art cinema, and more, as well as the impact of streaming.

You'll study live event and multi-camera filming, working to professional standards of live television production and collaborating with clients. You'll explore genre studies, develop production & screenwriting research skills, and study how to develop projects (through pre-production, production & post) in industry contexts from fiction & documentary production to news gathering, external client filming, music videos & live studio multicamera filming. You'll also have chances to create a showreel.

• portfolio which is an essential part of the course in order to present yourself visually to prospective employers. You will be taught on the different processes involved in producing industry-standard portfolio and assessed on the outcomes;
• practical skills which is one of the most important elements of the degree and you will be assessed on the quality of your finished pieces throughout the course.
