Today’s fast-paced media landscape is calling out for brave and flexible storytellers. On this Media degree, you’ll establish yourself within the field, developing sought-after technical skills and refining your distinct creative voice.
Whether you imagine yourself producing captivating digital content, leading media campaigns or reporting from a busy newsroom, you will learn to master the art of storytelling across broadcast, digital and visual platforms.
You’ll learn through a blend of media theory and creative, hands-on practice as you tackle live briefs and collaborative projects, developing the all-important ability to understand audiences and craft tailored, high-quality content. You’ll graduate ready to take on multiple career options in the rapidly evolving media industry.
On this Media & Communications degree, you’ll have access to a range of equipment and production facilities as you develop the creative and technical skills to produce compelling narratives and captivating video content. In year two of your Media degree, you’ll develop and hone your technical skills across your chosen specialism. You’ll hear from media professionals as guest speakers, and get to work alongside other students on live industry briefs.

Year Three:
You’ll be responsible for finding your own placement, with support from the employability team. Choosing this option will enhance your industry experience and skills while studying.
How you’ll study during your professional placement
You’ll spend time working in a professional context, as part of a business or organisation. This can be in one role, or up to three, and must be for a minimum of 24 weeks.
You’ll develop in-demand workplace skills, deepen your insight into industry and grow your network of contacts, all of which could help you get ahead in your career after graduation.
Throughout this year, you’ll develop a portfolio of work that includes critical self-reflection on what has been learned from the experience. You’ll be required to evidence your experiences, the skills you’ve learned and your professional growth.
Year four
Your final year is all about creating a career-launching portfolio. You’ll work collaboratively and individually on a range of content outputs, and will sharpen your professional and business development skills, so you’re all set to start making a living from your practice.

Assessment methods
Practice-based modules will be assessed on the presentation of visual work, including sketchbooks to show process. Theory-based modules will be assessed on a mix of written reports or illustrated essays.
In your final year, you’ll be assessed on your final year project and your portfolio - culminating in an exhibition of your final-year work.
You will receive feedback in a range of formats:
Discussions with tutors about work-in-progress
One-to-one tutorials with your module tutors
Informal group presentations
Group discussion and crits to get peer feedback on ideas
Academic support and feedback on written assignments are available in tutorials or with academic skills tutors
Asynchronous feedback offered through emails or ‘soft’ deadlines of practical work
Opportunities to get feedback from visiting guest speakers from industry or portfolio crits

We accept a range of recognised English language qualifications that are equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic minimum score of 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.
