Course summary
Do you want to support the wellbeing and social inclusion of people with learning disabilities? Learning disability nurses care for people of all ages with a learning disability and work in partnership with individuals, supporters and family carers to provide specialist healthcare. They promote their autonomy, rights, choices and their social inclusion in the health care system.
Our nursing degrees prepare you for the challenges of modern healthcare through the right mix of knowledge, skills and experience. The theory you learn in the classroom is reinforced by practical learning on campus and work- based learning. Employers are keen to recruit our nursing graduates because they know they are well-prepared, confident, competent and safe practitioners.
This three-year learning disability nursing degree combines theory and practice in an innovative way, to focus on the care of people with learning disabilities. Successful completion of this nursing degree will allow you entry to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Register as a qualified nurse. Currently, if you are a UK student, the fees for your nursing course will be paid by the Welsh Government.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) - DDM
Access to HE Diploma - D: 24 credits M: 18 credits P: 3 credits
Must complete 60 credits overall with at least 45 at level 3 and 15 at Level 2. Of the 45 credits at level 3, you will need a minimum of 24 Distinctions, 18 Merits and 3 passes.
GCSE/National 4/National 5
The University normally requires a minimum 5 GCSEs including Mathematics/Numeracy and English at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent, but consideration is given to individual circumstances.
Equivalent qualifications considered are Essential Skills Level Two in Communication and Application of Number, or Functional Skills Level Two in English and Mathematics. (Must have been achieved since 2016).
T Level - M
Passing the T Level with a Merit overall.

- A satisfactory medical is part of the entry requirements. Full details will be provided by the University if an offer of a place is made. If applicants have any questions they should contact the Enquiries and Admissions Team, admissions@southwales.ac.uk

- Applicants are required to attend an interview. They will have to demonstrate awareness of the role of midwives and show their commitment to the degree. All interviews take place at our Glyntaff Campus or Online. Full details are available on the University website and it is essential that all applicants read this before applying.
