Joanna is currently the Programme Lead for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme. She qualified from the University of Birmingham with Distinction in Clinical Dentistry in 2007 and has worked in NHS and private practices before joining the University as a Clinical Academic in 2011. She completed her PhD in 2017 and successfully finished Specialist Training in Endodontics in 2024.

Joanna was the Head of Admissions for the School of Dentistry from 2016 until 2023 and remains heavily involved with admissions activities for Dentistry both locally and nationally. She has been involved in developing national resources for admissions to healthcare programmes and continues to work closely with stakeholders nationally in dental admissions and workforce planning.
