About the British College of Osteopathic Medicine (BCOM)

BCOM has an international reputation for academic and research excellence in osteopathy. Known for the support we provide to students and for the quality of our teaching, BCOM Masters' students receive a solid understanding of human anatomy, physiology and nutrition, as well as developing osteopathic techniques. This degree course provides students with 1000 hours of clinical experience whilst also developing key business skills and research experience, enabling our graduates to work in established clinics or to build their own practice or to work for the NHS. BCOM graduates have pursued successful careers working with athletes, corporate consultancy, university-level teaching, work with animals and medical research.

Our spacious London campus is in North West London (NW3) with excellent transport links, making it easy for our students to experience all that London has to offer. We are close to the vibrant Camden Town as well as Regents Park and Wembley Stadium. Our campus is directly opposite Finchley Road tube station and only a 7-minute tube ride to Bond Street station, a popular shopping district. It is also near Finchley Road & Frognal rail station. The College building itself is in a green space, close to Hampstead Heath, whilst still being close to shopping and recreational facilities, for example the O2 Shopping Centre. BCOM is situated 60 minutes by car from Heathrow Airport. It is 40 minutes from Heathrow Airport via Heathrow Express and the tube.

About The Course

The purpose of the Master of Osteopathy (M.Ost) degree, is to educate individuals to become safe, competent osteopathic practitioners. On successful completion of the four year full-time course, graduates are eligible to register with the General Osteopathic Council and launch straight into a career as a practising osteopath. The Master of Osteopathy degree, validated by the Univeristy of Plymouth, is a four year full time course.

The curriculum involves problem-based learning, case-based scenarios and research over four years. Modules studied include anatomy, physiology, clinical methods, musculo-skeletal diagnosis, nutrition, clinical practice, psychology, paediatrics, business skills, leadership, research methods, osteopathic sports care (elective), women's health (elective), pain management (elective), care of the older adult (elective). Students will attend the teaching clinic located at BCOM, alongside practical skills classes, lectures and tutorials. Students spend 1000 hours in the teaching clinic, equipping them with the skills needed to be an excellent practitioner. Students will develop key business skills and research experience, enabling them to work in established clinics or to build their own practices after graduating.

Assessment

The assessments are designed to be stimulating and challenging, stretching the students' knowledge and practical skills. Assessments include essays, presentations, group work, reflective accounts, ISCE (integrated standard clinical exam), and clinical assessments either as individual students or group work.

Successful students graduate from BCOM with a validated integrated Master degree of Osteopathy from the University of Plymouth.
